The FCD 307 is a decentralized variable-frequency drive produced by Danfoss within the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. Designed to mount close to or directly on the motor, the unit converts a fixed three-phase mains supply into a modulated electrical output. It regulates the speed and torque of induction motors used in conveyors, pumps, and machine modules within industrial automation systems.
At nominal load, the drive operates with an efficiency of 96%, which limits electrical losses. The housing carries an IP66 rating and a NEMA designation of Type 4X Indoor, so dust, water jets, and washdown cleaning do not compromise the electronics. Thermal dissipation is modest because power loss at maximum load is only 40 W. The control section can deliver a high starting torque of 180% for 0.5 seconds, allowing stalled machines to overcome static friction. During normal operation, the inverter draws 1.9 A from the supply and provides 2.2 A to the motor at up to 1.5 kVA of apparent power. Protective coordination permits a maximum of two supply energizations per minute. Short-circuit withstand ratings reach 10,000 A with circuit breakers or 100,000 A when current-limiting fuses are used. Motor leads may use cables with conductor sizes up to 4 mm² (AWG 10).
For short overloads, the output stage can supply a maximum current of 3.5 A for 60 seconds, supporting acceleration or momentary process peaks beyond the continuous 2.2 A rating. The inverter converts that current into a typical shaft output of 0.75 kW, matching small IEC frame motors on auxiliary drives. Line protection is provided by upstream fuses rated at 25/25 A. The assembly has a mass of 5.8 kg, which supports wall-mounted or motor-mounted installation without adding excessive weight to the equipment. Its decentralized arrangement also reduces the length of motor wiring required between the drive and the connected machine. The sealed housing permits placement near industrial processes where dust, moisture, or routine cleaning may be present.
