Product Description:
The 178B5801 is a decentralized frequency converter manufactured by Danfoss as part of the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. Classified within the FCD 300 product type, the unit mounts directly on or near the motor it controls and modulates induction-motor speed in distributed industrial automation cells. By integrating power electronics, basic controls, and protective sealing in one housing, the drive eliminates the need for separate cabinet space and supports processing lines that require localized speed regulation.
The drive accepts a three-phase supply of 3 × 380–480 V, so it can connect to common plant power systems without an isolating transformer. Its continuous electrical throughput is rated at 3.3 kW, while its supported mechanical shaft capability is 5.0 HP when paired with a suitable motor. The cast housing carries an IP66 rating, providing complete dust protection and resistance to powerful water jets. This enclosure allows placement on conveyors, mixers, and other equipment exposed to cleaning fluids. The model has no integrated display, so parameter changes are completed through a remote programming tool or preloaded configuration files. The coating and hardware are supplied as standard options, providing baseline corrosion resistance and features suitable for general-purpose operation.
For electromagnetic compatibility, the inverter incorporates an integral 1A filter that reduces conducted noise on the supply lines and limits the need for additional filtering equipment. It is designated for use in processing applications, with default acceleration ramps and protection curves suited to pumps, agitators, and similar constant-torque loads. The platform is supplied without fieldbus support, so control signals are handled through discrete input and output connections or analog references. Power conductors terminate directly at fixed screw terminals on the main board, providing secure electrical connections within the sealed enclosure. Because of the lack of a terminal box, installation requires an external gland plate for routing and securing incoming cables. This arrangement keeps the power connections close to the motor and reduces the amount of wiring routed back to a centralized control cabinet.
