Product Description:
The 178B4503 is a decentralized AC drive produced by Danfoss within the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. Classified as an FCD 300 product type, this wall-mounted unit is intended for processing machinery where onboard motor speed control reduces panel wiring and shortens the distance between the inverter and the motor. Installed close to the load, it regulates induction motors according to application demand while remaining linked to supervisory controllers through its embedded fieldbus. This layout supports distributed drive installation on conveyors, mixers, and similar equipment where cabinet space is limited.
The drive supplies a nominal power rating of 0.75 kW, so it can continuously deliver that output level to a connected motor under rated conditions. Its mains terminals accept 3 x 380-480 V three-phase input power, allowing direct connection to common industrial feeders without an external step-up stage. An IP66 enclosure protects the internal electronics against dust ingress and powerful water jets, making the unit suitable for washdown areas and exposed machine mounting. Communication with the host PLC is handled over DeviceNet, which carries setpoints and status through a single shielded trunk. To reduce conducted emissions, the drive includes a 1 A RFI filter that attenuates high-frequency noise from the motor cabling and helps limit interference with nearby sensors.
The unit includes a display connector that mates with the detachable keypad used across the series, allowing local parameter access without opening the housing. Mechanical output is listed as 1.0 HP, which aligns with the power range used by small pumps, augers, and similar processing loads. Electrical connections are routed through wall-mounted terminals with metric threads, which help support direct installation on the machine and keep conduit runs short. A standard coating on the aluminum chassis and circuit boards provides basic corrosion resistance in typical industrial environments. The remaining hardware uses standard series components, which keeps the overall configuration consistent with other FCD 300 units.
