Product Description:
The 178B1398 is a decentralized variable-frequency drive manufactured by Danfoss for the FCD 300 Micro Drives series. It mounts directly on machinery and provides closed-loop speed control for conveyor belts, agitators, and other loads used in plant-floor processing lines. Its decentralized design places motor control near the driven equipment, reducing the need for long shielded motor cables between the load and a central control cabinet. This arrangement also makes the drive suitable for installations where available cabinet space is limited or where several motors are distributed throughout a production area.
The drive accepts a three-phase 380–480 V supply, allowing it to connect to common low-voltage industrial power systems without a transformer. Its continuous electrical output is rated at 1.5 kW, corresponding to a mechanical shaft output of 2.0 HP. Communication is provided through Profibus DP V0/V1 at 12 Mbaud, which supports cyclic setpoint exchange, status monitoring, and parameter transfers with a higher-level PLC. The housing has an IP66 rating, making it dust-tight and resistant to powerful water jets during equipment cleaning. A front-panel display connector provides direct access to operating parameters and drive status during setup or maintenance.
Conducted electromagnetic noise is reduced by an integral 1A filter installed in the drive. The unit is extended with a brake, so it includes an internal brake chopper and related circuitry for dynamic stopping. Cable termination is supported by a wall-mounted box with metric threads, allowing the use of standard metric cable glands and helping secure incoming power, motor, and communication wiring. For processing applications, the supplied parameter set supports the constant-torque behavior commonly required by conveyors, mixers, and agitators. A standard protective coating shields the internal electronics from airborne moisture and condensate when the drive is mounted near processing equipment.
