The PRO-8 is a panel-mount temperature controller manufactured by Danaher as part of the Thermal Controllers series. The unit occupies a 1/16-DIN cutout and combines sensor conditioning, closed-loop PID computation, and selectable analog or logic outputs inside a compact housing. In automated ovens, extruders, and environmental chambers, it monitors thermocouple or RTD feedback, executes stored thermal profiles, and drives heaters or cooling devices so that process temperatures stay within established tolerances without continual operator adjustment.
The front bezel is rated IP65, so splashed water or airborne dust will not reach the keypad or eight-character LED display. Accuracy is improved by 16 linearization segments that let the controller correct nonlinear sensor curves before the signals reach the PID loop. For batch processing, the internal programmer stores 10 ramp-and-soak segments that can run automatically once a start contact is received. Digital input 1 draws only 50 µA when active and detects a level as low as 2.5 V, making it compatible with low-energy PLC outputs. Sensor fault monitoring injects a 1 µA break current and issues an alarm if the circuit opens. The compact case extends 118 mm behind the panel yet withstands a shock load of 15 g for 11 ms without disrupting the internal electronics.
The controller has a front width of 96 mm and a height of 48 mm, giving it an outline suitable for compact control cabinets. Sequence timing is precise because the logic input recognizes a minimum command pulse of 20 ms, allowing reliable step changes in fast-cycling equipment. When configured for a universal analog output, the digital-to-analog converter provides 11-bit resolution, supporting fine control of valves or phase-angle devices. The controller can therefore transmit small output adjustments without large jumps between adjacent command levels. Despite these functions, the assembly weighs only 0.27 kg, reducing the load placed on light-gauge panel doors. Its low mass also makes the controller easier to support in compact enclosures where the mounting surface has limited structural reinforcement.
