Product Description:
The EA170-52100 is a limit switch produced by Danaher within the Snaplock Limit Switches series. The unit mounts at a machine hinge or cam and provides a discrete electrical signal when a rotating member reaches a preset angle. By converting angular motion into a rapid contact transition, it provides position feedback for safety interlocks, sequencing, or end-of-stroke confirmation in automated production equipment.
Inside the housing, a rocker-type actuator drives a butt contact stack arranged with 2 NO and 2 NC poles. The stack follows the Form Z pattern, so both the normally open and normally closed elements change state at the same instant. A silver-alloy contact surface withstands arcing and keeps resistance low, enabling the switch to carry up to 20 A at 125 VAC without overheating. The contacts close through direct butt engagement, minimizing bounce during operation. Rotation must be applied counterclockwise. For installation flexibility, the lever can be indexed anywhere from 7° 30′ through 360°, and the wide mounting configuration accommodates broad brackets or plates. Electrical action is coupled through a reverse shaft that places the drive end on the side opposite that of standard models.
To operate the mechanism, the cam must deliver 30 in-lb of torque. Initial contact occurs after a trip travel of 10°, and the arm should then continue through a recommended sweep of 13° to ensure a clean transfer before reaching the total stroke limit of 37°. The mechanism releases when the lever reverses by 8°, providing a consistent differential for reliable resetting. These angular thresholds allow the switch action to be aligned with dwell regions while preventing excessive stress on the snap mechanism. The device supports continuous operation at ambient temperatures from -20 °C to +90 °C, allowing it to function in refrigerated areas, general factory environments, or hot machinery enclosures.
