The EA170-36100 is a rocker-actuated limit switch manufactured by Danaher as part of the Snaplock Limit Switches series. Deployed on conveyors, press arms, and indexing tables, it translates small shaft rotation into discrete on/off signals that tell a controller when a mechanical position has been reached. Its self-contained housing, adjustable operating head, and snap-action mechanism allow the device to detect end-of-travel points without relying on complex sensors. By opening or closing multiple isolated circuits simultaneously, the switch can interlock motion, start auxiliary equipment, or trigger safety shutdowns.
The switch carries an AC load rating of 20 A at 125 V, allowing it to interrupt sizable inductive or lamp currents on single-phase mains. For low-energy direct-current circuits, the rating drops to 5 A, a limitation caused by arc suppression considerations in DC switching. Internally, the contact block is wired in a Form Z arrangement that provides two normally open and two normally closed paths, so machine logic can receive both active and inverse status from one device. The mechanism uses a double-pole design and delivers up to 10.5 in-lb of operating torque, ensuring the rocker can overcome spring forces and reliably snap the contacts.
The die-cast body meets NEMA 1/4/13 enclosure requirements, so it resists dust ingress, dripping liquids, and oil splashes encountered in production lines. Angular motion is guided by established limits: recommended travel is 7° beyond the free position, total permissible movement reaches 36°, and the contacts snap over after only 6°30′ of trip travel. A separate reset window returns the mechanism after 4°, while the 7°30′ lever increments support fine indexing when multiple switches share a common shaft. Long mounting slots simplify alignment on brackets, and the zinc-aluminum housing maintains dimensional stability under vibration.
