The EA170-32100 is a snap-action rotary limit switch built by Danaher for the Snaplock Limit Switches series. Installed on machinery shafts, it translates angular motion into discrete electrical signals that start, stop, or sequence equipment in automated lines. The front-mounted shaft positions the cam interface toward the accessible side of the machine, while the zinc and aluminum housing protects the internal contacts from common industrial contaminants and incidental impact.
The electrical stage uses a double-pole architecture with two normally open and two normally closed contacts, allowing control circuits to handle power and feedback paths simultaneously. Each normally open circuit can switch up to 20 A at 125 VAC, while DC applications are limited to 5 A at 125 VDC because direct-current arcs are more difficult to interrupt. Silver-alloy butt contacts resist pitting during repetitive operation. The Form Z contact geometry keeps the normally open and normally closed elements isolated, and neither pole shares a common terminal. This arrangement permits galvanic isolation between motor power circuits and low-level PLC inputs. The cam mechanism requires an operating torque of 23 in-lb and rotates only in the specified counterclockwise direction. It provides a total angular travel of 37°, and the cam reaches its trip point after 10° of rotation to produce a rapid state change for time-sensitive interlocks.
After actuation, the cam may continue to the recommended travel position of 13°, which keeps dwell forces low and helps extend contact life. Reset occurs when the shaft reverses to a clearance position of 8°, allowing a narrow dead band without false reengagement. Long mounting slots simplify alignment when the switch is attached near a rotating machine member. The separated double-pole circuits can support independent control paths where electrical isolation is required. Its compact rotary mechanism is suitable for conveyor diverters, lift tables, indexing equipment, and other machinery that requires discrete angular position feedback.
