The EA170-22100 is a rotary limit switch built by Danaher within the Snaplock Limit Switches series. This device provides end-of-travel feedback to controllers so that conveyors, hoists, or other actuators stop or reverse at precise mechanical limits. In industrial automation, its cam-operated mechanism translates shaft rotation into electrical signals that open or close circuits to protect equipment and coordinate motion.
The switch functions over an ambient temperature range of -20 °C to +90 °C, permitting installation in cold storage areas or near warm process machinery without separate conditioning. Internally, it carries a 2 N.O. + 2 N.C. contact arrangement; two circuits close and two open when the cams reach their set angles, allowing simultaneous signaling and interlocking. All poles use a Form Z contact geometry, meaning each normally open pole is paired with a normally closed pole on the same actuator for synchronous changeover. Current flows through silver alloy contacts that provide low resistance and a long service life under inductive loads. Protection against dust and water jets comes from the NEMA 1, 4, and 13 enclosure ratings, while the butt-type contacts, zinc-aluminum housing, and wide mounting configuration provide the rigidity required for repetitive indexing.
The drive shaft turns counterclockwise, matching the specified CCW direction of operation, and the cams can be adjusted through a maximum span of 167°. Total mechanical movement is limited to 37°, with trip, reset, and recommended travel values of 10°, 8°, and 13° establishing the operating window around each set point. Each incremental cam adjustment is made in steps of 7° 30′, allowing repeatable positioning during setup. The mechanism resists back-driving with an overall torque of 23 in-lb, preventing accidental drift caused by vibration or overrun.
