The EA170-21300 is a mechanical limit switch produced by Danaher for the Snaplock Limit Switches series. In automated machinery, the device converts small angular movement from a cam or shaft into an isolated electrical change of state that can trigger interlocks, sequencing, or safety shutdowns. Its snap-action mechanism delivers repeatable switching at a specified torque and travel boundary, supporting predictable machine operation. The front-mounted shaft also provides a direct mechanical interface for equipment that requires reliable position detection without a separate electronic sensor.
Internally, the switch uses a DPDT circuit, so two independent pole sets transfer simultaneously between normally open and normally closed positions each time the shaft trips. The silver-alloy contacts handle an AC load of 20 A at 125 VAC, allowing direct switching of fractional-horsepower motors or solenoids. The DC load rating is limited to 5 A at 125 VDC because arcing is more difficult to extinguish without the zero crossing of an alternating waveform. Mechanical actuation requires 23 in-lb of clockwise torque applied to the front-mounted shaft. Once this threshold is exceeded, the cam advances through 10° of trip travel, causing the contacts to change state with a positive snap. The lever then moves through the recommended 13° sweep and can continue until reaching its total travel of 37°, which helps prevent overstress. Individual detents are indexed 7° 30′ apart so successive operators can be positioned at consistent angles around a common shaft.
After actuation, clockwise pressure can be removed, and the switch relatches when the cam reverses by 8°, restoring the circuit to its normal condition. The contact arrangement provides a 2NO/2NC configuration built to the Form Z standard, giving two mirrored changeover paths for redundant control circuits. A wide mounting style spreads the base across the supporting surface for stable installation on brackets or panels. The shaft exits from the front face, making it easier to couple the switch to cams, levers, or chain wheels. Overall depth, including the operating head, is 6.58 in, keeping the assembly compact relative to its current capacity while leaving room for wiring inside an enclosure.
