The EA170-14100 is a snap-acting limit switch produced by Danaher within the Snaplock Limit Switches series. The device is installed at fixed mechanical endpoints, where it converts angular shaft motion into discrete electrical signals for interlocking or sequence control in automated machinery. A rocker-style actuator translates direction-specific motion into internal contact movement, allowing the switch to register clockwise displacement of cams, levers, or rotary shafts.
It has a contact arrangement of 2NO/2NC, providing two normally open and two normally closed circuits that can be wired for simultaneous make-or-break functions under a single operating stroke. Each circuit handles up to 20 A at 125 VAC, so motor starters or solenoids can be driven directly without intermediate relays. The moving and stationary elements use silver alloy contacts, which provide low contact resistance and help suppress arcing during repetitive switching. External wiring passes through a 1-inch, 11.5 NPT conduit entry, while machine force is transferred through the rocker to an internal spring stack that produces an operating torque of 32 lb-in. Contact motion follows the Form Z pattern, with butt contacts that separate on opposite poles to minimize the risk of phase shorting.
Total angular movement is limited to 36°, providing a controlled range for the actuator mechanism. The recommended operating span is 7°, allowing consistent overtravel beyond the trip point of 6°30′ and supporting reliable return toward the reset point of 4°. Mounting uses a 5/16-18 NC thread that aligns the housing with brackets or driver arms. When mounted correctly, the enclosure meets NEMA Type 1, 4, and 13 classifications, allowing indoor general-purpose service while providing protection against splashing water and oil. The switch operates only with clockwise rotation, and the rocker returns automatically when the driving mechanism reverses. This return action prepares the contacts for the next operating cycle without requiring a separate reset mechanism.
