The EA080-21100 limit switch is produced by Danaher within the Snaplock Limit Switches series. It is a mechanical position sensor that converts shaft rotation into a discrete electrical signal for interlock or sequencing tasks in industrial automation. When the front shaft is driven clockwise, the internal rocker mechanism toggles the contacts to confirm travel endpoints or safety positions. This operation allows rotating machinery to initiate a control response when the shaft reaches the intended position.
For actuation, the unit uses a rocker-type SNAP-LOCK mechanism, so a small angular input quickly drives the contacts over center and minimizes chatter. The switching element has a 1NO/1NC (SPDT) arrangement, allowing one contact path to open as the other closes for control logic. Current passes through a silver-alloy butt contact set that provides low resistance and good wear life. Differential travel is only 8°, which allows the reset angle to remain close to the trip angle for consistent operation. A recommended movement of 13° keeps the linkage clear of the over-center spring. The switch trips at 10°, and the shaft can continue through a total rotation of 38° without damaging the mechanism. The epoxy-sealed enclosure with a cable helps block dust and fluids when the switch is installed on packaging equipment or near washdown areas. Its Butt, Form Z contact style allows the normally open and normally closed paths to change state together.
The die-cast housing is made from die-cast zinc, providing dimensional stability while keeping the switch moderately light. Lever orientation can be adjusted in 7°30' increments through 167°, allowing the cam and shaft to be aligned without additional brackets. The switch operates across a temperature range of -20 °C to +90 °C, covering conditions commonly found around production equipment and motor compartments. Shaft torque is 14 lb-in during pretravel and reaches 38 lb-in at full stroke, supporting direct coupling to sturdy drive cams. Standard front mounting places the shaft in an accessible position for connection to the actuating mechanism.
