The SAM-PA-400-30-E servo amplifier is manufactured by Danaher as a member of the SAM Servo Amplifiers series. The unit interfaces between plant power and a motion controller, converting incoming utility voltage into a controlled DC bus and phase-modulated output currents required by industrial servomotors. In automated assembly lines, pick-and-place stations, or packaging cells, the amplifier supplies dynamic drive power while reporting diagnostic states to higher-level control systems. A compact housing and clearly marked terminal strips allow efficient panel integration without separate interface modules.
It accepts a three-phase mains supply rated at 400 V, and an external 24 VDC control supply keeps the logic circuits active during safety stops. The primary power path enters through the X5 male connector and is bonded to protective earth through the PE stud. Internally, rectified energy is available at the DC+ and DC Bus− terminals, and the positive pole is also routed to pin X2-1 for external monitoring. Current dumping during regenerative events is controlled by the shunt IGBT lead on X2-2. Identification resistors connect to X2-3 and X2-4 so the controller can verify the amplifier size. The optional X2 female header allows these low-level signals to be wired without opening the main power connector.
Condition monitoring is handled through the X7 status terminal strip. A brake overload condition is signaled on X7-10, allowing the motion controller to remove torque commands when the mechanical brake approaches its thermal limit. Bus undervoltage is indicated by X7-7, while X7-6 transmits a reset acknowledgment after faults are cleared. An internal heat sink overtemperature condition is reported on X7-9, allowing external fans or shutdown routines to respond before the amplifier shuts down. Pin X7-8 remains spare for future use.
