The SAM-DA-400/480-28B-P5N-E is a servo amplifier produced by Danaher within the SAM Servo Amplifiers series. Designed for cabinet installation, the module interfaces between industrial mains power and three-phase motors, supplying controlled energy that closes the drive loop in automated machinery. It conditions input power, supervises feedback devices, and issues gate commands so that the connected servomotor can follow motion profiles accurately in assembly lines and material-handling cells.
The power section tolerates line supplies rated at 400/480 VAC, rectifies the incoming power, and raises the internal DC bus to as much as 800 VDC for high-speed transients. From this bus, the inverter can deliver a continuous phase current of 28 A, allowing the amplifier to drive medium-frame motors without external boosters. Communication along the manufacturer’s Easybus is carried over fiber-optic cable, which provides noise-resistant, galvanically isolated data exchange. For position sensing, the control logic supports resolver, encoder, and sine/cosine feedback, enabling the amplifier to operate with legacy resolvers or modern high-resolution encoders on the same axis.
Control and safety wiring is powered from an auxiliary rail of 24 VDC, and the circuit remains active down to a minimum of 19.2 V during brownouts. The dynamic braking hardware connects through a connector with five dedicated pins, while thermistor leads from the motor are routed through a separate three-pin header for temperature monitoring. The amplifier has two safety stop inputs that permit direct integration with emergency-stop chains in accordance with machine safety standards. The power stage distributes its output across three motor phases through six screw terminals. Twin rotary switches on the front panel set the device’s network node address, allowing multiple amplifiers to share the same bus without software mapping conflicts.
