Product Description:
The HS35R204881EF is a hollow-shaft incremental encoder produced by Danaher and listed in the Dynapar Encoders series. It installs on large-frame AC or DC motors to provide digital position and velocity data that motion controllers use for closed-loop regulation. The device supports quadrature outputs for bidirectional counting, allowing accurate speed trimming, web tension control, and synchronized conveyor indexing without mechanical gearboxes. Its hollow-shaft design permits direct attachment to a motor shaft, reducing the need for additional couplings and alignment hardware.
The electrical output has a resolution of 2048 PPR, so every full shaft revolution generates 2,048 equally spaced pulses. With quadrature phasing of 90° ±22.5° and signal symmetry of 180° ±18°, the two output channels maintain the timing tolerance needed for high-speed direction sensing. A minimum frequency response of 100 kHz supports high counting rates, while the maximum allowable shaft speed is 3600 rpm. Square-wave edges transition within <1 µs, limiting timing uncertainty when the encoder is wired to high-resolution counters. The open-collector drivers support a maximum current of 100 mA. Running torque stays below 4.5 oz-in, reducing the load placed on motor bearings and limiting heat generated through mechanical resistance.
The hollow shaft tolerates an axial load of 30 lb and a radial load of 40 lb, helping the code disc remain stable when external forces act on the assembly. Starting torque is limited to 5.0 oz-in, allowing lightly coupled spindles to begin rotating without excessive resistance. During operation, the unit withstands impacts up to 50 G for 11 ms, supporting use in machinery exposed to intermittent mechanical shock. Its sealed housing carries a NEMA 4 / IP66 protection grade against dust and directed water. Overall weight is limited to 16 oz, allowing the encoder to mount directly on a shaft without requiring substantial structural support or counterbalancing. The sealed enclosure also supports operation around airborne debris and washdown cleaning where moisture could otherwise reach internal sensing components.
