Product Description:
The E14200020700 is an incremental optical encoder manufactured by Danaher within the Dynapar Encoders series. It mounts on a 1/4-inch shaft and converts rotation into quadrature pulses for servo drives and PLC counters. By reporting position in real time, it enables closed-loop speed control, index positioning, and length metering across packaging, conveying, and assembly equipment. Its optical sensing system provides continuous motion feedback for applications that require accurate position and speed data.
The encoder operates from a regulated 5 VDC logic rail and draws no more than 80 mA, so it can share the supply used by typical microcontroller I/O cards. Its glass code wheel produces a resolution of 2000 PPR, which yields 8,000 usable counts per revolution after 4x decoding for fine velocity adjustment or accurate length measurement. The optoelectronic channel maintains a minimum frequency response of 100 kHz, keeping pulse edges clean even near the maximum mechanical speed of 5000 rpm. A maximum starting torque of 0.43 oz-in keeps added drag low and preserves servo bandwidth. Sealed bearings isolate internal tracks from dust, while the bidirectional differential output with an index channel supplies complementary A, B, and Z signals through the integral 18-inch cable. The rotating mass is limited to 3.8 × 10⁻⁵ oz-in-s², reducing reflected inertia on small motors.
The encoder tolerates forces produced by couplings and drive belts during normal machine operation. An axial shaft load of 3 lb and a radial shaft load of 5 lb can be applied without shortening bearing life, allowing direct coupling to light gear trains or tensioned timing belts. The line-driver stage can sink or source 40 mA without signal distortion, providing strong differential signals for long cable runs through electrically noisy cabinets. The enclosure has a NEMA 12/IP54 rating, which protects the internal components from airborne dust and water spray encountered in most production areas. The sealed housing also helps protect the optical components when the encoder is installed near conveyors, packaging machinery, or assembly equipment.
