The DMC2 51540P-CAN is a multi-axis drive and control module engineered by Danaher for the DMC Motion Controllers series. It supplies regulated three-phase power to servo motors while coordinating motion commands in automated machinery. Current regulation and field-oriented control allow the unit to manage position, speed, and torque with the precision required by packaging equipment, production lines, and material-handling systems. Its integrated control architecture reduces the need for separate motion and drive components while supporting synchronized operation across multiple axes.
The drive delivers a continuous phase current of 11 A RMS and provides a mechanical output of up to 7.4 kW. It operates from a 3 × 400 VAC mains supply, with input conductors carrying 11 A RMS and the internal DC bus supporting 14 A. Short acceleration and torque events can draw a motor phase current of up to 40 A. The connected motor must have an inductance of at least 6 mH to limit ripple current during these peak-current events. Overall conversion efficiency is 95%, which limits internal thermal losses to 155 W under the stated operating conditions. These losses must be considered when arranging panel ventilation and clearance around the housing.
The power stage operates at a carrier switching rate of 4 kHz, balancing switching stress and audible motor noise. During cyclic or emergency deceleration, the braking hardware dissipates 80 W continuously and can sink 20 A of braking current. The brake resistor has an energy capacity of 18.7 kJ per stop, helping prevent excessive DC-bus voltage without an external dump chopper. Motion commands, diagnostic messages, fault information, and process data are exchanged through a secondary network port that supports CANopen CiA 301. This interface allows communication with decentralized I/O devices and higher-level PLC networks.
