Product Description:
The XTL-230-36-S is a digital loop module produced by Copley Controls within the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. It functions as a compact servo drive that interfaces with external motion controllers to regulate torque, speed, and position for brushless or stepper motors used in automated machinery. By monitoring feedback devices and modulating pulse-width switching, the unit supplies tightly controlled current to the motor phases while drawing its power directly from single- or three-phase mains.
The drive supports a continuous output of 12 Adc and can deliver short bursts up to 36 Adc for acceleration events, with the overload window limited to 1 s. Current is updated inside a closed loop that executes at 15 kHz, giving fast response to command changes and minimizing ripple. Velocity and position loops run at 3 kHz, while the internal PWM section maintains switching integrity down to a minimum pulse width of 220 ns. The control stage resolves analog command inputs at 12 bits, and motor inductances as low as 200 µH line-to-line remain stable because the 15 kHz loop compensates for their electrical time constants.
A step-and-direction interface accepts pulses up to 2 MHz, allowing high-resolution indexing without saturating the position loop. The ±10 V command port presents an input impedance of 74.8 kΩ, so external sources are not heavily loaded. Logic circuitry draws no more than 500 mA from the control supply, and the encoder port supplies +5 V at 400 mA for incremental or absolute feedback devices. When powered from single-phase mains, the module can draw peaks of 20.0 Arms; on three-phase feeds, the peak falls to 10.4 Arms, improving thermal margins. Excess kinetic energy is diverted to a braking resistor once the DC bus reaches 390 Vdc, and regeneration ceases when the voltage drops to 380 Vdc, preventing oscillation.
