Product Description:

The XTL-230-36 is a digital loop servo drive manufactured by Copley Controls for the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. It conditions incoming AC power and closes high-bandwidth current, velocity, and position loops to command brushless or brushed servomotors in automation equipment. By embedding its control algorithms on board, the module provides a single-axis power stage that supports fast trajectory updates on pick-and-place gantries, test stands, and high-throughput packaging lines.

At the power stage, the drive supplies a continuous output of 12 Adc to the motor windings, providing steady torque under rated thermal conditions. For acceleration bursts, it can generate a peak of 36 Adc for up to 1 s, providing enough headroom for rapid index moves before the protection timers intervene. Magnetic stability is maintained provided that the connected load has at least 200 µH of line-to-line inductance, and switching occurs through a PWM carrier with a minimum pulse width of 220 ns. The current loop closes at 15 kHz, while the velocity and position loop refreshes at 3 kHz. The control logic is powered by a 500 mA rail. The assembly weighs 3.0 lb, allowing panel mounting with minimal reinforcement.

Twelve optically isolated digital inputs accept homing, limit, or enable signals, and a differential analog command channel presents an impedance of 74.8 kΩ to prevent it from loading upstream controllers. Position data streams can be captured at a 2 MHz rate, supporting high-resolution encoders without loss of edge accuracy. On the mains side, the single-phase supply may draw up to 20.0 Arms during dynamic events. Energy returned from decelerating loads is directed to the bus and dissipated once the voltage exceeds +390 Vdc, with regeneration ceasing when the voltage falls to +380 Vdc. The drive measures 7.55 × 5.57 × 2.55 in, permitting dense stacking inside compact control cabinets.
