The XTL-230-18-S belongs to the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series produced by Copley Controls. The module installs inside multi-axis machines and closes the current and velocity loops for brushless or stepper motors. It accepts analog references and digital motion commands, allowing a motion controller to regulate torque and speed in precision automation equipment. Its internal control structure supports fast command processing without requiring the host controller to execute the motor’s inner control loops.
The module has a continuous output current rating of 6 A DC for sustained motor torque. Its peak current capacity reaches 18 A DC for 1 second, supporting brief acceleration demands without saturating the output stage. The current loop operates at an update rate of 15 kHz and has a bandwidth of 2.5 kHz, allowing torque commands to be applied with minimal delay. A minimum motor inductance of 200 µH is required to maintain stable pulse-width modulation. At maximum output, the module draws 10.1 A RMS from a single-phase mains supply. The reference inputs have an impedance of 74.8 kΩ, which limits loading on connected command sources. Pulse-width modulation maintains a minimum pulse width of 220 ns to support controlled switching behavior. The velocity loop operates at 3 kHz and processes speed corrections at a lower rate than the current loop.
The analog encoder input supports frequencies up to 230 kHz, accommodating feedback from high-speed motors and precision stages.
