Product Description:
The XTL-230-18-R is a digital servo amplifier module manufactured by Copley Controls within the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. It accepts command signals from PLCs or motion controllers and regulates motor phase currents through high-frequency PWM switching. The module serves as an intermediary between low-power control electronics and servo actuators, enabling closed-loop motion control in industrial automation cells, pick-and-place robots, and precision process equipment. Its control architecture supports accurate regulation of motor torque, velocity, and position when paired with compatible feedback devices and motion-control hardware.
The module draws power for its control electronics from a +24 Vdc supply. It can deliver a continuous motor current of 6 Adc while supporting surges to 18 Adc for up to 1 second. To prevent saturation and maintain stability, connected windings must provide at least 200 µH of line-to-line inductance. The internal current loop operates at 15 kHz, allowing rapid rejection of load disturbances. Analog command channels are digitized at 12-bit resolution, and twelve optically isolated digital inputs coordinate index capture, homing, and enable functions. Four digital outputs report fault status or in-position signals. A minimum PWM pulse width of 220 ns supports linear duty-cycle control at high carrier frequencies.
The position interface accepts step-and-direction, clockwise and counterclockwise, or quadrature command streams at rates up to 2 MHz. The drive closes its velocity and position loops at 3 kHz, delivering smooth tracking for demanding motion profiles. Resolver feedback is supported through a 2.8 Vrms carrier operating at 7.5 kHz and supplying 100 mA of reference current. The internal resolver converter provides 14-bit angular data for precise commutation and position measurement. These feedback and command interfaces allow the amplifier to process rapid command changes while maintaining accurate motor-current vectors. Optical isolation on the digital inputs also separates external control signals from sensitive internal circuitry, reducing the effect of electrical noise in industrial installations.
