Product Description:

The XSJ-230-06 is a compact servo drive module manufactured by Copley Controls for the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. It supplies closed-loop motor control functions that let higher-level motion controllers command torque, velocity, or position without placing the current-regulation burden on the bus master. By integrating power electronics, feedback processing, and safety limits inside a 126 mm deep housing, the module simplifies cabinet layouts in multi-axis industrial automation systems. Its internal control architecture processes motor feedback and adjusts the power stage in real time, allowing the connected axis to respond accurately to changing motion commands.

The drive provides a continuous current of 3 A DC, while short bursts of up to 6 A DC are supported for 1 second to overcome inertial loads. A current loop that updates at 15 kHz and a PWM carrier frequency of 30 kHz help minimize torque ripple and audible noise. The drive trips if the DC bus exceeds 400 V DC, protecting internal devices from regenerative overvoltage. Motor connections must provide at least 200 µH of line-to-line inductance so the switching network can maintain stable current regulation. Regeneration begins when the bus rises 10 V above its nominal level and is managed by an internal MOSFET dissipator, eliminating the need for an external brake resistor.

Machine-level integration is supported by 14 optically isolated digital inputs, four sourcing digital outputs, and a position loop that executes at 3 kHz for responsive tracking of commanded trajectories. Quadrature A/B/(X) encoder signals are accepted as standard feedback for precise rotor-angle information. The self-contained shunt circuit absorbs up to 80 W of excess kinetic energy during deceleration. The housing measures 126 × 89 × 53 mm and weighs 0.30 kg, permitting installation on DIN rails or bulkheads near the motor. Mounting the module close to the controlled axis can reduce motor-cable impedance and conserve space within the electrical panel.
