Product Description:

The XSJ-230-02-S is a plug-in motion-control module produced by Copley Controls within the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. Intended for servo positioning drives, the unit processes high-resolution analog sine/cosine feedback and distributes command data over a CANopen network, providing a compact method for closing current and velocity loops directly at the axis level. The current loop can operate inside the module, leaving the motion controller focused on trajectory generation and reducing traffic on the communication bus.

The controller sustains a continuous motor phase current of 1 A DC while supporting momentary peaks of 2 A DC during acceleration. A separate brake output is rated at 1 A DC, and an auxiliary output channel can supply connected devices with up to 250 mA DC. Position data arrive through an analog sine/cosine encoder port that accepts 1.0 V peak-to-peak differential signals. Encoder signals are interpolated at 10 bits per cycle and tracked at frequencies up to 230 kHz, supporting responsive position and velocity control. The module offers 14 optically isolated digital inputs for limit switches, homing flags, or mode selection. It also provides 4 sourcing digital outputs for relays, status lamps, and other compatible loads.

The housing measures 89 mm wide, 126 mm high, and 53 mm deep, allowing multiple modules to be mounted side by side on a DIN rail with minimal clearance. A 5 V DC encoder supply rated for 250 mA is available through the front connector, which eliminates the need for external power connections for many feedback devices. CANopen communication follows the DSP-402 device profile and uses a CAN V2.0b physical layer for interoperability with standard motion controllers. The module can control a single servo axis in pick-and-place stages, gantries, automated positioning assemblies, and compact laboratory instruments where centralized trajectory commands must be combined with local feedback processing.
