Product Description:

The XPL-230-36-HL is a digital servo drive module produced by Copley Controls as part of the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. Designed for industrial automation cells, it closes current, velocity, and position loops for brushless or brushed motors while interfacing with external motion controllers through high-speed feedback lines. By combining power conversion, signal conditioning, and safety monitoring in a single chassis, the module supplies precise torque control and coordinated motion for robotics, packaging machinery, and semiconductor handling equipment.

The drive supports a continuous motor current of 12 A DC, providing sustained output for continuous-duty applications. It can deliver up to 36 A DC for bursts not exceeding 1 s, enabling rapid acceleration of inertial loads before returning to its continuous current level. The current control loop updates at 16 kHz, allowing the drive to respond quickly to changing torque commands. An encoder channel accepts feedback signals at frequencies up to 5 MHz for precise commutation and position tracking. The velocity and position control loops each run at 4 kHz, supporting responsive closed-loop motion. The output stage supports motors with a minimum line-to-line inductance of 200 µH, permitting direct connection to low-impedance windings.

An internal DC-bus capacitor with a capacity of 2350 µF smooths supply ripple, while the braking circuit can absorb regenerative power peaks as high as 10 kW to protect the upstream power source. The command interface accommodates 15 digital inputs for limits, interlocks, and other control signals. It also provides 6 digital outputs for status lamps and related field devices. Two auxiliary 5 V outlets provide a combined 400 mA supply for incremental encoders, eliminating the need for a separate logic supply. Single-phase installations draw 20.0 A RMS, whereas three-phase systems require 10.4 A RMS, allowing the module to operate with either supply arrangement.
