Product Description:

The XML-230-18 is a digital loop module manufactured by Copley Controls for the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. Designed for servo applications, the unit integrates into motion systems where it generates precise motor currents under processor supervision. Within an automation cell, it forms the bridge between high-level trajectory commands and the phase-leg power delivered to brushless or brushed actuators, enabling deterministic torque, velocity, and position control on assembly lines, packaging equipment, and semiconductor tools.

It accepts a universal mains input of 100 to 240 VAC at frequencies between 47 and 63 Hz, drawing up to 10.1 Arms from single-phase lines or 6.4 Arms from three-phase feeds. After rectification and filtering, the stage provides a continuous output of 6 Adc and can deliver bursts of up to 18 Adc for acceleration or shock loads. The power section requires a minimum line-to-line load inductance of 200 µH to maintain current-loop stability. Control electronics are energized by a separate +20 to +32 VDC rail that can supply up to 500 mA. An analog reference input of ±10 VDC is converted with 16-bit resolution, allowing external sources to command precise torque levels without relying on fieldbus traffic.

Closed-loop performance is supported by a current loop that updates at 16 kHz, while position registers can be refreshed at 2 MHz for high-resolution encoders. Pulse-width requests from external PWM sources are accepted from 1 to 100 kHz, and internal control processing generates velocity or position updates at 4 kHz to smooth trajectory execution. The module provides 15 digital inputs, 6 digital outputs, 3 analog inputs, and 1 analog output, simplifying local interlocks and sensor sharing. All circuitry resides in a fanless aluminum housing that measures 201.2 × 139.9 × 58.7 mm, allowing the drive to fit in shallow electrical panels while leaving clearance for neighboring components.
