The XE2-230-20-R digital loop module is manufactured by Copley Controls and belongs to the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. Installed in distributed servo racks, it regulates motor torque and velocity by closing high-speed current and velocity feedback loops. The module interfaces with a host motion controller to translate position commands into precise drive signals that keep brushless or brushed servo motors on target during packaging, robotic, or material-handling operations. This arrangement allows the host controller to coordinate motion while the module handles rapid adjustments within the local control loops.
Control electronics are powered from a dedicated +24 Vdc rail, while the power stage delivers a continuous phase current of 10 Adc and can rise to 20 Adc for up to 1 s to accommodate acceleration or disturbance loads. The current loop is updated at 16 kHz, allowing the drive to react quickly to dynamic changes in load. Twelve high-speed inputs capture edge-triggered events such as index sensor signals. Five optically isolated outputs report status or operate relays without exposing the internal logic to field voltages. Two brake outputs are available for controlling electromagnetic holding devices. These input and output channels support direct communication with sensors, machine controls, and auxiliary devices throughout an automated system.
The command interface accepts an analog span of ±10 Vdc that is digitized with 14-bit resolution to minimize quantization error in torque mode. For resolver-based feedback, the drive excites the transducer at 8 kHz, supplies up to 100 mA, and reads the returning sine-cosine signals through 14-bit internal conversion. A carrier amplitude of 2.8 Vrms helps maintain signal integrity across typical cable lengths. The minimum load inductance of 200 µH line-to-line prevents excessive ripple current when the inverter switches. The velocity algorithm runs at 4 kHz to synchronize speed commands with plant-wide control cycles. Resolver excitation and analog command processing provide separate signal paths for motor feedback and host control commands.
