Product Description:
The XE2-230-20-H is a two-axis digital loop module released by Copley Controls within the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. Designed for servo motion systems, the module generates precise current, velocity, and position commands that drive power amplifiers and motors in automated assembly lines, packaging cells, and robotics. By managing the inner control loops separately, it reduces the processor load on the main controller and improves synchronization between the two axes.
Each axis can deliver a continuous output of 10 A DC, while short bursts can reach 20 A DC for up to one second when additional acceleration or deceleration is needed. The board accepts a control supply of +24 V DC for its logic circuits and gate drivers. The power input drawn from a single-phase supply is limited to 18 A RMS and drops to 14 A RMS with a three-phase supply, allowing operation from common industrial power sources. The analog current loop is updated at 16 kHz, while the velocity and position loops run at 4 kHz to keep command timing aligned with encoder feedback. The module must be paired with motors that have a line-to-line inductance of at least 200 µH to keep switching ripple within the drive’s control bandwidth. Two 5 V auxiliary rails are available for encoders and sensors, with each port supplying 500 mA and the system providing 2000 mA in total.
On the control side, the unit provides 22 digital inputs for limit switches, homing sensors, and programmable functions, along with 7 digital outputs for brake release signals, relays, and status indicators. Real-time motion commands enter through dual RJ45 ports that support 100BASE-TX EtherCAT daisy-chaining, and interpolated position data are accepted at a maximum rate of 2 MHz. The safe torque off function reacts within 2 ms, allowing the drive to disable motor torque rapidly without requiring external contactors.
