Product Description:

The XE2-230-20 is a single-axis drive module in the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series from Copley Controls. It is intended for integration inside multi-axis motion racks, where it closes current, velocity, and position loops for brushless or brushed servomotors under host control. By combining power conversion with DSP-based regulation, the module delivers precise torque and speed commands for automated machinery, packaging lines, and semiconductor tools that require compact drive electronics.

The power stage supplies 10 A DC continuously and can deliver up to 20 A DC for 1 s to handle acceleration bursts. Current regulation updates at 16 kHz, while velocity and position loops refresh at 4 kHz, enabling tight tracking of command profiles. The analog reference path is digitized at 14-bit resolution, and a position reference input accepts step-and-direction streams up to 2 MHz. Twenty-two digital inputs accommodate limit switches and user flags, while a minimum load inductance of 200 µH simplifies motor connection requirements. The DC link has 2,350 µF of bus capacitance, which stabilizes the internal supply when peak currents are drawn. These input and control features allow the module to process rapid motion commands while maintaining closed-loop regulation across demanding acceleration and positioning cycles.

Protective functions monitor the 325 V bus; the drive trips at 400 V DC during an overvoltage condition and at 60 V DC during an undervoltage condition to protect connected electronics. An internal sensor halts operation when the heat sink reaches 80 °C, and a gate driver enforces a minimum PWM pulse width of 220 ns to maintain switching fidelity. Four isolated encoder supplies rated at 5 V share a combined 500 mA current allowance for connected feedback devices. The unit also records DC-link ripple and loop timing, allowing operating behavior to be reviewed during demanding motion sequences. This monitoring can reveal supply fluctuations or timing irregularities that could affect precise current, velocity, or position control.
