The R10-230-36 is a compact digital servo amplifier module produced by Copley Controls as part of the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. It regulates current, velocity, and position in brushless motors or voice-coil actuators by converting single-phase mains power into precisely modulated drive current for industrial automation axes. Onboard signal conditioning and high-speed control loops allow the module to operate as a stand-alone drive in distributed motion platforms where available space and cable routing are limited. Its digital architecture supports coordinated motion while keeping the power conversion and control functions within one panel-mounted unit.
The power section delivers a continuous output current of 12 Adc. For acceleration transients, the amplifier supplies up to 36 Adc for 1 s before returning to its continuous rating. The current loop operates at 15 kHz and remains stable when the connected motor has a phase inductance of at least 200 µH. Single-phase mains power can draw up to 20.0 Arms, while a separate 24 V logic supply draws 500 mA. Thermal monitoring disables the output when the heat sink reaches 80 °C, helping protect the amplifier and connected equipment from excessive temperature. These operating limits allow the control electronics and output stage to respond to changing motor loads without exceeding the module’s current or thermal capacity.
High-level commands enter through a 2 MHz position interface and are processed by a velocity and position loop operating at 3 kHz. The output turns off if the bus voltage exceeds 400 Vdc, while excess regenerative energy is diverted when the DC link reaches 390 Vdc. Analog reference signals pass through a 74.8 kΩ input stage, which minimizes electrical loading on the upstream command source. Digital modulation uses a minimum PWM pulse width of 220 ns to provide fine duty-cycle resolution during motor control. The 7.55 × 5.57 × 2.55 in package supports direct panel mounting in compact control enclosures. The module weighs 3.0 lb, reducing the structural load placed on the mounting panel while leaving room for the required power, feedback, and control connections.
