Product Description:

The 800-2158 module is a member of the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series from Copley Controls. Designed as a two-axis current-mode drive, it regulates brushless or stepper motors directly from a control cabinet slot. The device accepts machine-level command signals, closes the current loop internally, and sends pulse-width-modulated power to each phase. In automation equipment, this arrangement simplifies multi-axis coordination while maintaining high amplifier density. It is intended for packaging lines, pick-and-place robots, and other installations that require precise torque response.

Each axis can deliver a continuous output of 10 A DC and withstand bursts of up to 20 A DC for as long as 1 second, enabling rapid acceleration without long-term overheating. The current loop runs at 16 kHz, so torque commands are updated every 62.5 microseconds. Two differential analog inputs are sampled at 14-bit resolution for velocity or position demand signals. Pulse input channels accept step-and-direction signals at up to 2 MHz, supporting high-speed microstepping indexers. Twenty-two digital inputs accommodate limit switches, homing sensors, and fault lines, while seven digital outputs report drive status to the PLC. Internally generated pulse-width modulation has a minimum pulse width of 220 nanoseconds, and the design supports motor inductances as low as 200 microhenries without instability.

Support electronics include four 5 V accessory ports that can supply up to 500 mA total to external encoders or logic devices. The module’s logic and interface circuits draw power from a dedicated 24 V DC control supply, allowing the power stage to shut down while fieldbus communication remains active. An aluminum chassis measuring 234.7 × 137.6 × 91.1 mm fits in shallow panels and weighs 1.90 kg, keeping the mass low for gantry-mounted enclosures. The separate accessory supply and onboard logic reduce cabinet space requirements by eliminating the need for auxiliary regulators.
