Product Description:
The 800-1953 is a digital loop module produced by Copley Controls for the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. It is designed to mount inside multi-axis cabinets and deliver tightly regulated drive commands to brushless or brushed servomotors in automated machinery. By combining power conversion with onboard motion processing, the module supplies regulated DC outputs and coordinates with upstream PLCs through EtherCAT, allowing precise actuation, energy recovery, and integrated safety in industrial automation lines.
For continuous operation, the module supplies 7.5 A of motor phase current, while transient demands can be met with a peak current of 15 A that may be sustained for 1 s before foldback limits engage. The power stage produces an internal bus voltage of 373 VDC; this elevated voltage increases motor headroom and reduces copper losses. To protect the drive transistors, loads must provide at least 200 µH of inductance, preventing excessive current changes at switching edges. Excess kinetic energy is dissipated through a 60 W external resistor, and the electronics can return up to 20 W of regenerative power to the bus. Eleven optically isolated inputs accept signals from limit switches or homing sensors, while five sourcing outputs report status to external relays. A 5 V auxiliary rail supplies up to 1,000 mA for encoders or logic, and the analog reference path has an impedance of 5.06 kΩ to minimize source loading.
Control bandwidth is supported by a current loop that updates at 16 kHz and a velocity loop that refreshes at 4 kHz, providing fast disturbance rejection for demanding motion profiles. Network traffic passes through two RJ-45 EtherCAT ports arranged in a daisy-chain topology, eliminating the need for external switches. The integrated Safe Torque Off function disables the power stage within 2 ms, helping machine builders meet performance-level requirements without separate contactors. The features are housed in a 191.4 × 115.6 × 54.1 mm enclosure, keeping cabinet depth low while placing power, feedback, and safety interfaces in a single module.
