The 800-1865 digital loop module is produced by Copley Controls for the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. It functions as a board-level servo drive that converts low-voltage DC bus power into controlled three-phase motor outputs. The module supports precise current, velocity, and position control directly within compact motion stages and robotic cells, reducing the need for a separate enclosed drive.
Electrical performance centers on a bus range of 14–90 V DC, allowing the module to pair with low-voltage supplies used in mobile or distributed architectures. With a continuous output capability of 7 A and a short-term ceiling of 14 A, it can accelerate moderate-inertia rotary or linear motors while remaining within its thermal limits. The drive synthesizes sinusoidal motor waveforms from the available DC link and delivers up to 90 V DC per phase through carrier-based switching. Output frequency is programmable from 0–3000 Hz, allowing high-pole motors to reach their rated speeds. Current loops are refreshed at 16 kHz, while velocity and position loops are computed at 4 kHz to provide responsive servo control. Copley requires a minimum load inductance of 200 µH to limit current ripple across the bridge.
One ±10 V analog input accepts torque or velocity commands and provides a direct connection for analog control sources. Eleven digital inputs and four digital outputs accommodate step, limit, and fault signals without requiring additional I/O hardware. Field communication is available through MACRO and RS-232, allowing the module to operate on deterministic fiber networks or independently through a serial connection. The module measures 129 × 86.6 × 50.4 mm, allowing multiple units to fit within a compact panel layout. Its IP20 protection rating makes it suitable for installation inside a cabinet with filtered airflow. The circuitry operates at ambient temperatures from 0 to +45 °C without derating. Internal current sensors remain stable at zero speed, enabling the motor to produce full torque while stationary.
