Product Description:
The 800-1846 module from Copley Controls belongs to the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. It functions as a multi-axis current-mode amplifier that closes motor current, velocity, and position loops directly on the backplane of a motion system. By accepting command data from a host controller and driving brushless or stepper motors, it allows industrial automation equipment to achieve precise torque and speed control without the need for individual standalone drives.
Each axis can source a continuous output of 10 A per axis, sufficient for medium-frame servomotors, while a peak of 20 A per axis is available for up to 1 second to overcome inertia or static friction. Current regulation is updated at 16 kHz, so the drive follows command changes with 62.5 µs granularity. Two differential analog inputs accept ±10 V signals and are digitized at 14-bit resolution, enabling torque or velocity commands with fine scaling. Twenty-two optically isolated control lines provide 22 user-assignable digital inputs for limit switches, homing sensors, or drive-enable logic, all powered from an external +24 VDC bus. The drive operates with motor inductances down to 200 µH line to line, and its PWM stage can generate pulses as narrow as 220 ns to maintain accuracy at high switching frequencies.
For outbound signaling, the card provides 7 digital outputs that can drive contactors or optical indicators directly from the logic section. Position-based motion is refreshed at 4 kHz, and stepper pulse streams can be issued at up to 2 MHz when open-loop microstepping is preferred. An auxiliary regulator furnishes +5 VDC at 500 mA for incremental encoders or Hall sensors, eliminating the need for an external supply. All functions are packaged in an enclosure measuring 234.7 × 137.6 × 91.1 mm, permitting panel installation beside PLC I/O without excessive depth.
