The 800-1604A is a two-channel digital loop module produced by Copley Controls for the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. Mounted between a motion controller and external power stages, it closes the current loops that drive brushless or brushed servomotors in automated machinery. By providing high-speed regulation on the board, the unit reduces the computational load on the PLC and delivers tightly controlled torque in packaging lines, pick-and-place gantries, and small robotic systems. Its two-channel arrangement allows a single module to regulate two motor axes within a compact control enclosure.
Each channel supplies a continuous output of 3 A DC and can deliver up to 4 A DC for 1 second to handle transient load demands. The current loop operates at 15 kHz, and a minimum load inductance of 200 µH prevents excessive ripple during high-bandwidth operation. The internally generated pulse-width modulation also switches at 15 kHz, while the reflected ripple at the load appears at 30 kHz, keeping it above the audible frequency range. Four optically isolated digital outputs are available, with each output rated for 50 mA DC, allowing the module to report faults or control external contactors. The board provides encoders with a 5 V DC supply at 250 mA for differential or single-ended feedback devices. This encoder supply supports reliable position signals for the outer control loops without requiring a separate feedback power source.
The module accepts a DC bus ranging from 20 V DC to 55 V DC and draws 8.5 A DC when both channels operate at peak duty. Its encoder input supports a maximum line frequency of 5 MHz, allowing the control logic to process high-resolution feedback without signal overrun. The aluminum chassis measures 167 × 99 × 30 mm and weighs 0.43 kg, making it suitable for dense installation inside a 19-inch enclosure. The pulse-width modulation frequency matches the current-loop rate, which simplifies electromagnetic interference filtering within the control cabinet. Combined with programmable logic, the four digital outputs can provide local interlocks and reduce the amount of wiring routed back to the main controller.
