The 5434AC is a plug-in servo amplifier module produced by Copley Controls for the XENUS Digital Loop Modules series. It interfaces between a motion controller and a three-phase brushless motor, delivering closed-loop velocity and torque regulation for industrial automation axes such as pick-and-place slides and gantry drives. The module converts DC bus power into high-frequency PWM outputs while monitoring electrical and thermal limits required for reliable servo performance.
The module has a 3 kHz current-loop bandwidth, allowing tight disturbance rejection at typical mechanical resonance frequencies. During steady operation, the drive supplies a 15 A continuous phase current and can deliver 30 A for overload events, matching the acceleration needs of moderate-torque servomotors. Switching is performed at a 25 kHz PWM carrier, which minimizes audible noise and current ripple. Command enable takes effect within 1 ms, so the axis can be armed quickly during machine startup. Supply wiring must accommodate a mains draw of 16 A, and the DC bus can experience inrush peaks up to 37 A when capacitors charge. Output devices exhibit only 0.15 Ω of on-state resistance, reducing conduction loss at full load. External wiring guidelines call for a 30 A / 250 V fast-acting fuse on the supply and permit the drive to sink up to 250 mA on isolated switch inputs.
