It is a plug-in power stage that converts low-level analog references into modulated current for servo coils, allowing an automation controller to close precise motion loops on conveyors, robots, and electronic assembly tools. By integrating gate drivers, protection circuitry, and a +5 V auxiliary rail, the module simplifies cabinet wiring and places the power-handling section close to the motor load.
The drive can deliver a continuous output of 15 A at 120 V and, for short demands, a peak output of 30 A at 100 V. Switching is performed at 25 kHz, a frequency high enough to minimize audible noise while keeping switching losses moderate. Internally, the small-signal path supports a 3 kHz bandwidth, so the current loop can follow rapid command changes without excessive phase lag. Motor inductance must be at least 400 µH to prevent ripple that could overheat the windings as the transistors switch. A ±20 V reference input is accepted through a 94 kΩ impedance network, and the enable line takes effect within 1 ms. The output transistors have only 0.1 Ω of on-state resistance, limiting conduction loss during sustained torque. The onboard logic draws a maximum of 1.4 W and has a 2.5 V threshold to support clean, high-speed transitions.
Startup conditions allow an inrush current of 37 A, after which normal operation proceeds until a protective limit is reached. Thermal shutdown activates at 70 °C, while an overvoltage cutoff trips at 195 VDC; undervoltage lockout engages below 45 VDC to keep the gate-drive circuits properly biased. The auxiliary supply can source 250 mA for encoders or sensors, and the reference network withstands input swings without placing an excessive load on the upstream digital-to-analog converter.
