The TP2-090-10 stepper and servo amplifier is produced by Copley Controls as part of the Stepnet Compact Drives series. Designed for panel-mounted motion axes, the unit converts DC bus power into two-phase current profiles that position hybrid stepper motors in automated equipment such as pick-and-place heads and small gantries. It fits into distributed control architectures by accepting differential step-and-direction commands and providing encoder feedback to the host controller. This arrangement supports precise motion control in machines that require compact drive hardware and direct command processing.
Signal handling starts with two differential analog channels, each of which provides 12-bit resolution. The drive accepts 2 simultaneous voltage references for torque or velocity targets. For discrete events, it has 24 optically isolated digital inputs that capture limit, home, and user-assigned functions without additional interface boards. Inside the control loop, phase current is updated at 16 kHz, while the servo estimator refreshes position data at a velocity and position loop rate of 4 kHz to minimize step errors. When an external incremental encoder is attached, the counter tracks edge transitions at up to 5 MHz, allowing high-line-count feedback devices to operate without oversampling. The drive accepts minimum step pulses of 220 ns and supports a commanded step frequency of 2 MHz.
Power delivery includes a continuous phase-current rating of 10 A DC, and the corresponding peak phase current can be maintained for one second during rapid moves. The DC input bus supports a continuous current of 20 A DC, provided that the connected motor has at least 200 µH of phase inductance to moderate current ripple. Switching elements modulate the output at up to 100 kHz, keeping current spectral components outside most resonance bands. Configuration and monitoring are performed through an RS-232 connection operating at 115,200 baud, which supports parameter changes and fault logging through a standard PC utility. The communication link provides direct access to operating data without requiring an additional network interface.
