The TP2-090-07 is a DC motor drive produced by Copley Controls as part of the Stepnet Compact Drives series. Designed for panel-mounted use in multi-axis machinery, the unit regulates the current and velocity of stepper or servo motors powered by a 90 VDC supply. In automated assembly cells, packaging lines, and light material-handling equipment, it converts command signals from a host controller into precise phase currents so that axes accelerate, position, and hold loads with consistent torque.
It operates from a bus of 90 VDC and delivers a continuous motor phase current of 5 A DC. For rapid moves, it supplies 7 A DC for up to 1 second, after which it returns to the continuous rating. An inner current loop is processed at 16 kHz, permitting tight regulation even on loads with the minimum recommended inductance of 200 µH. The drive accepts 10 A DC continuously from the DC bus and can draw 14 A DC during peak events; these upstream limits help with selecting suitable power supplies and cabling. A dedicated brake output provides 1.0 A DC to release or apply a motor-mounted brake when motion stops. Internally, the solid-state relay stage switches external devices with only a 0.85 V drop at 300 mA DC, so auxiliary fans or contactors can be driven directly.
Motion-command interfaces run at 4 kHz for velocity and position updates, while the analog channel is digitized at 12-bit resolution through a 5.05 kΩ input that accepts ±10 V references. For incremental feedback, the drive emulates quadrature at 4096 lines/rev, allowing legacy position counters to track moves generated by newer encoders. Incoming encoder streams may operate at up to 5 MHz, so high-speed spindles can be monitored without losing counts. The control logic coordinates the solid-state relay output and brake circuit, ensuring that mechanical holding devices engage immediately when the axis is disabled.
