Product Description:

The TEL-090-10 is a Stepnet Compact Drives unit from Copley Controls. It functions as a microcontroller-based amplifier for hybrid stepping motors in distributed automation systems. Installed near the motor, it modulates bus power through dual H-bridge MOSFET inverters, allowing a PLC or motion controller to execute precise position or velocity profiles without additional interface hardware. Its compact installation format reduces the length of motor wiring while keeping motion control close to the driven axis.

This drive regulates a single motion axis and can supply a continuous winding current of 10 Adc (7.07 Arms). During acceleration, the same current can be delivered for up to 1 s before foldback protection limits the power stage. The drive accepts a DC bus range from 14 VDC to 90 VDC, allowing it to share supplies with servo or logic power systems in low-voltage machinery. Feedback-free torque generation is optimized for a hybrid stepping motor. One 12-bit analog reference input supports speed or torque adjustment. Digital control uses seven non-isolated inputs, four optically isolated inputs, three optically isolated outputs, and a dedicated brake output. These connections support command signals, status monitoring, and direct control of an external motor brake without requiring separate interface modules.

The connected motor must provide a minimum line-to-line load inductance of 400 µH, which keeps current changes within the operating range of the drive regulators. The inverter stage uses a switching carrier of 32 kHz to reduce audible switching noise while maintaining current regulation. Host devices can exchange parameters and diagnostic data through EtherCAT and RS-232 communication interfaces. The enclosure measures 129 × 86.6 × 50.4 mm, allowing installation near the motor or within a compact control cabinet. Its mass of only a few hundred grams places a limited mechanical load on mounting panels and localized machine structures.
