The TE2-090-10 is a two-axis motion amplifier manufactured by Copley Controls for the Stepnet Compact Drives series. The module receives low-level position or step commands from a controller and produces regulated phase current for hybrid stepper or brushless servo motors. With network connectors and screw terminals arranged on a small PCB-style frame, it fits into distributed control panels where multiple axes must be packed tightly. In automated pick-and-place, labeling, and light machining cells, the unit closes the motor current loop on board, relieving the PLC from high-speed torque regulation and maintaining consistent movement accuracy. Its compact layout also supports short internal wiring paths, which helps keep multi-axis panels orderly where space is limited.
A digital current loop running at 16 kHz modulates PWM duty cycles so that phase current tracks command values with minimal delay. The high-voltage DC bus operates between 14 Vdc and 90 Vdc, and the lower limit also acts as the undervoltage trip point that removes drive output when supply voltage collapses. Continuous and peak supply demand are both limited to 20 Adc, reducing copper size in shared power rails. Proper electromagnetic behavior requires at least 200 µH line-to-line inductance in the connected motor, which keeps ripple current within control bandwidth and helps prevent foldback during aggressive accelerations. This operating range makes the amplifier suitable for compact motion systems that use a shared DC supply across both axes.
Each axis can deliver continuous and peak currents of 10 Adc, enabling direct connection to small NEMA-frame steppers or compact servos that need identical hold and surge torque. For incremental feedback, the encoder interface counts transitions up to 8 Mcount/s, and command inputs can accept step-and-direction pulses at a ceiling of 2 MHz for high-resolution profiles generated by FPGA or microcontroller sources. When a safety circuit opens, the integrated Safe Torque Off channel extinguishes gate power within 2 ms, allowing machinery to meet Category 0 stop requirements without additional contactors or relays. These input and feedback capabilities support precise trajectory handling during rapid indexing, contouring, and synchronized point-to-point moves.
