The STX-230-07 is a digital motor drive manufactured by Copley Controls for the Stepnet Compact Drives series. Designed for panel mounting, it regulates current in two-phase stepper and brushless servomotors, converting single-phase AC input into precisely modulated pulse-width signals. By integrating fieldbus communication and local signal conditioning, the unit becomes a drop-in axis amplifier for packaging, semiconductor, and material-handling machinery that require tightly controlled torque loops and high command throughput.
Main power is accepted from a single-phase source of 200–240 Vac at 50–60 Hz, while a separate control-logic rail of 20–32 Vdc at up to 500 mA keeps the processor active during brownout events. The drive delivers a continuous phase current of 5 Adc and can supply up to 7 Adc for transient loads lasting 1 s. Current is switched through dual H-bridges at a carrier of 15 kHz, balancing acoustic noise with thermal efficiency. A CANopen V2.0b DSP-402 node handles networked motion commands, and an RS-232 port running between 9,600 and 115,200 baud supports local setup or diagnostics. Minimum motor inductance is 200 µH per phase, so low-inductance windings remain within the controller's stability margin. The anodized housing measures 146 × 119 × 55 mm, enabling dense multi-axis layouts inside compact control panels.
Output ripple is further attenuated by a secondary modulation layer that operates at 30 kHz, reducing differential noise seen by high-resolution feedback devices. The incremental encoder channel is rated for 20 Mcounts/s, ensuring that full-speed position data are captured without aliasing when the step input reaches its ceiling of 1.5 MHz. Regenerative energy is diverted to an external absorber once the DC bus climbs to 390 Vdc, preventing overvoltage trips during rapid deceleration.
