Product Description:

The STP-075-07 is a panel-mount, DC-powered stepper drive produced by Copley Controls within the Stepnet Compact Drives series. It interfaces between a machine controller and a two-phase stepper motor. The drive translates step-direction or encoder feedback commands into precisely timed current waveforms so automated axes can index, feed, or position loads in packaging, semiconductor, and laboratory equipment.

The drive delivers a continuous phase current of 5 Adc and can supply up to 7 Adc for short-duty motion profiles, while the input stage tolerates an inrush current of 8 Adc for one second during acceleration. Its power section operates from a DC bus ranging from 20 Vdc to 75 Vdc, allowing the unit to share supplies with other 24–60 V motion electronics. Twelve optically isolated digital inputs accept limit, home, or fault signals. General-purpose lines withstand 30 Vdc, and high-speed edges up to 12 Vdc are recognized for timing-critical triggers. These electrical limits help determine wiring requirements and protect the internal logic when the drive is installed on multi-axis backplanes.

The current loop is refreshed at 15 kHz, providing fine control when microstepping or damping resonance. Internally generated pulse-width modulation switches at 30 kHz, allowing motor inductance to filter ripple outside the audible range. For indexers that send step-direction commands to the drive, the interface accepts pulse streams up to 1 MHz, enabling very small step angles without aliasing. When used in closed-loop mode, the encoder channel counts edges at up to 20 Mcount/s, supporting high-resolution feedback on fast linear stages. The available pulse rate accommodates demanding motion profiles that require rapid command updates, while the encoder input provides the feedback throughput needed to track fast movement accurately.
