The SP2-090-07 is a compact DC-powered servo and stepper drive produced by Copley Controls as part of the Stepnet Compact Drives series. Designed for cabinet or machine-mounted integration, the unit regulates phase current and motor velocity to automate positioning axes, conveyors, and small robotic joints within industrial equipment. It accepts a high-voltage DC bus and combines digital control loops with field-programmable I/O so manufacturers can embed precise motion control without adding a full-size rack drive.
With a high-voltage input limit of 90 Vdc, the drive can be powered from rectified mains or battery sources. The minimum allowable bus is 14 Vdc, which lets the same hardware operate in low-voltage mobile assemblies. The power stage delivers a continuous phase current of 5 Adc/phase and can surge to 7 Adc for 1 second to overcome inertia or static friction. Current is regulated inside a digital loop that refreshes every 16 kHz, while a supervisory algorithm running at 4 kHz closes the velocity and position loops. The inverter requires at least 200 µH of line-to-line motor inductance to maintain stable PWM operation and keep ripple below thermal limits.
On the command side, a 12-bit differential analog input captures torque or velocity references, and motion sequencing can be triggered through 26 optically isolated digital inputs. Seven sinking digital outputs provide status or programmable fault signals, and the incremental encoder port tracks feedback signals up to 5 MHz to support high-resolution linear or rotary scales. The power bridge switches at a PWM ripple frequency of 32 kHz, which helps reduce audible noise and minimize current ripple in low-inductance motors. All circuitry fits within a 114 × 73 × 21 mm aluminum enclosure that draws 10 Adc under continuous load and 14 Adc during peak events.
