The 800-2051 is a multi-axis stepper drive module manufactured by Copley Controls within the Stepnet Compact Drives series. Designed as a board-level unit, it controls and powers multiple stepper or brushless motors from a single compact footprint. In automated assembly cells, packaging machines, and laboratory instruments, the drive converts low-voltage DC bus energy into pulse-width-modulated phase currents while exchanging motion commands over fieldbus or serial connections. Integrating several motion channels into one module reduces panel space and wiring compared with the use of separate single-axis amplifiers.
Each motion card governs 4 independent axes and delivers a continuous phase current of 3 A per channel. For short acceleration bursts, the peak current can be sustained for up to 1 s before thermal foldback engages. Machine I/O is handled locally through 24 optically isolated digital inputs that accept limit, home, and emergency-stop signals. The switching elements inside the drive chop the high-voltage rail at a carrier frequency of 25 kHz, helping limit audible noise and current ripple. Incremental encoder feedback uses a regulated 5 VDC supply and allows the drive to close the position loop on each axis. This feedback also helps the module compare actual movement with commanded steps during coordinated machine operation.
The module provides 8 sourcing digital outputs that can transmit status signals or energize compatible relays without additional interface hardware. Its power stage accepts a supply range of 14 to 55 VDC, supporting common low-voltage control supplies and higher-voltage DC power systems. CANopen communication operates at up to 1 Mbit/s for exchanging commands and status data with a machine controller. A secondary RS-232 port supports diagnostic communication at up to 115200 baud. The board measures 101.6 mm wide, 76.2 mm high, and 20.83 mm deep, allowing installation on compatible carriers or custom backplanes inside compact enclosures. Its shallow board-level profile helps preserve clearance for nearby power supplies, communication components, and cable connections.
