The 800-2050 is a compact digital stepper drive from Copley Controls and is part of the Stepnet Compact Drives series. Intended for panel-mounted motion axes, it converts line power into controlled phase currents for two-phase hybrid stepper motors used in pick-and-place stations, indexing tables, and laboratory automation. By combining power conversion, step-pulse conditioning, and feedback support in a single enclosure, the unit simplifies wiring on 115 VAC machines that require precise incremental motion.
The drive delivers a continuous output of 5 Adc, allowing motors with phase inductances as low as 200 µH to run without saturation during steady-state moves. For acceleration bursts, it can raise the phase current to 7 Adc for a maximum of 1 s, providing extra torque while remaining within thermal limits. Current is switched at a carrier frequency of 15 kHz; this PWM rate places ripple well above the mechanical bandwidth of typical stepper loads, minimizing acoustic noise. Command inputs accept step-and-direction pulses up to 1.5 MHz, so high microstepping resolutions can be maintained even on fast linear stages.
Twelve opto-isolated user inputs provide interface flexibility and can be mapped to enable, home, or limit functions. The drive also provides four sourcing digital outputs for fault signals or position comparison. When an incremental encoder is used for position verification, the drive supplies regulated feedback power of 5 Vdc at up to 250 mA, removing the need for an external sensor supply. Excess kinetic energy from decelerating axes is dissipated through an internal shunt with a continuous rating of 40 W and a peak allowance of 80 W. This shunt protects the main bus against overvoltage without increasing the 146 × 119 × 55 mm housing dimensions or the 0.76 kg mass.
