Product Description:
The 800-1583C is a compact servo drive produced by Copley Controls within the Stepnet Compact Drives series. It controls brushless or brushed servomotors in distributed automation by supplying regulated current to match motion profiles commanded by a PLC or motion controller. By integrating power electronics, current regulation, and network communications into a single module, the unit streamlines cabinet layouts for multi-axis machinery.
The drive delivers a continuous output of 10 Adc, while short demand surges are supported by a peak output of 11 Adc; these current limits assist with motor sizing and fault protection. The current control loop operates at 15 kHz, allowing tight torque regulation even with low-inductance windings. The PWM carrier operates at 30 kHz, keeping its switching frequency above the typical human hearing range. The drive provides 12 optically isolated inputs for functions such as limit detection, homing, and high-speed capture, while four transistor outputs report drive status to safety relays or logic cards. The encoder port supplies +5 V at 250 mA, supporting high-resolution incremental encoders without requiring an external power source.
For networked motion, the physical layer follows CAN V2.0b, allowing the drive to join DSP-402 or CiA-301 buses alongside sensors and actuators. Position feedback is processed through a quadrature counter that supports frequencies up to 5 MHz, preserving feedback performance during high-speed operation. Configuration and diagnostic functions are available through a dedicated RS-232 maintenance port. A 26-pin HD D-Sub connector at J3 carries motor power, feedback, and I/O signals, while RJ-11 and dual RJ-45 connectors support node chaining and service access. The unit weighs 0.43 kg, which reduces the mounting load on moving axes and densely populated backplates.
