The 800-1560B is a compact DC-bus drive from Copley Controls that belongs to the Stepnet Compact Drives series. This module functions as a single-axis amplifier for stepper and brushless servo motors, converting low-voltage bus power into the phase-modulated current needed for position, velocity, and torque loops in automated machinery. The drive allows motion control electronics to be mounted close to the motor, reducing panel space while maintaining deterministic control over axes such as pick-and-place heads, gantry slides, and indexing tables.
The power stage accepts an input of 20–75 Vdc, allowing it to run from common 24 V or 48 V supplies used on mobile or stationary equipment. During continuous operation, it supplies up to 5 A of output current and can deliver a transient peak of 7 A for acceleration or disturbance rejection. This overcurrent period is limited to 1 s to protect the motor and switching devices. Current is synthesized through dual MOSFET H-bridges driven at a PWM ripple frequency of 30 kHz, a switching rate that moves electromagnetic noise above the audible range while minimizing torque ripple. The device profile follows CANopen DSP-402, allowing compatible drives to use the same state-machine structure. Twelve digital inputs and four digital outputs connect the motion layer to PLC signals or safety interlocks.
An analog command range of ±10 Vdc provides a deterministic alternative for host-generated velocity or torque references when fieldbus control is unavailable. The CANopen port complies with DS-301 V4.01 and transmits process data at 1 Mbit/s. For local setup, the RS-232 port supports 9,600–115,200 baud, allowing parameter files to be updated without interrupting the machine network. The slim 102 × 69 × 25 mm housing fits into tight enclosures while providing adequate surface area for conduction cooling. Its compact shape also supports installation near the controlled axis, where shorter motor wiring can simplify cable routing and reduce the amount of cabinet space required for the drive system.
