The 800-1560 is a DC-powered microstep and servo drive produced by Copley Controls within the Stepnet Compact Drives series. Designed for panel or embedded mounting, the unit converts a 20–75 V DC bus into bipolar phase currents for two-phase stepper motors or brushless servomotors used in pick-and-place stations, feeders, and small gantries. Field wiring connects control networks, feedback transducers, and incremental encoders directly to the drive. This arrangement allows motion axes to be integrated into larger industrial automation cells without external amplifiers.
Continuous phase current is rated at 5 A peak, giving the drive sufficient steady torque for many NEMA 23 motors. Short-term demands can be met with a 7 A peak pulse that the amplifier sustains for 1 second before current foldback occurs. The power stage accepts an input ranging from 20 V DC to 75 V DC, and the drive may draw up to 8 A DC during acceleration or regeneration. The module measures 102 × 69 × 25 mm, so it occupies less than 180 cm³ of cabinet volume. Its switching strategy shifts ripple components to 30 kHz to reduce audible noise during motor operation.
The position loop refreshes at 3 kHz, while the current loop operates at 15 kHz so commanded torque closely tracks the reference waveform. For direct machine coordination, the CANopen interface supports data rates up to 1 Mbit/s. Pulse-and-direction inputs accept step frequencies up to 2 MHz, supporting high-speed command streams from compatible motion controllers. The drive provides 12 opto-isolated digital inputs and four sourcing outputs for sequencing clamps, indexers, and sensors. An incremental encoder channel reads feedback at 8 million counts per second, allowing the controller to follow high-resolution motion trajectories. The drive also maintains smooth microstepping when the bus voltage approaches its minimum operating level.
