The 800-1477 is a Stepnet amplifier module engineered and designed by Copley Controls for digital control of motors. Unlike other amplifiers manufactured by Copley, the 800-1477 fully runs at a DC supply and may operate in two types of control modes: servo or stepper. At nominal operating conditions, the 800-1477 can run at a rated input voltage range of 20 to 75 VDC. At this input range, the current must not exceed a peak value of 8 A. On the amplifier’s output side, the terminal voltage can achieve a maximum value of 75 V. Regardless of the output terminal voltage, the typical output current is around 5 amperes.

As mentioned earlier, the 800-1477 can operate either in stepper or servo mode. In stepper mode, the motor can be operated to move at precise steps to complete one revolution. An optional encoder may be used to rectify errors in stepper mode. On the other hand, the servo mode utilizes encoder feedback, which allows the drive to precisely monitor the rotor movement during operation. Like other amplifiers released by Copley Controls, the 800-1477 requires a 24VDC supply for its DC/DC converter. The converter then provides the internal DC supply for the logic signals and motor encoder circuits. Finally, the high DC link power consumed by the drive is used to power the PWM inverter.

When the 800-1477 operates in servo mode, the amplifier can operate in two formats: 50% or 100% duty cycle format. The 50% duty cycle format only requires one signal line and determines the control direction based on whether the duty cycle is below or above 50%. On the other hand, the 100% duty cycle format requires two wires for controlling the motor’s duty cycle and direction.
