Product Description:

The 800-1477 digital drive is manufactured by Copley Controls for the Stepnet Compact Drives series. It operates from a DC bus between +20 V and +75 V and supplies modulated phase power to stepper or servo motors used in pick-and-place, conveyor, and inspection axes. The drive interprets pulse, analog, or network commands from a higher-level controller and closes the current, velocity, and position loops internally, giving machine builders a compact stage that saves cabinet space while retaining full motion-control functionality.

During continuous motion, the amplifier delivers 5 A DC to the motor phases, while a short-term reserve of 7 A DC is available during acceleration or shock loads for up to 1 s. The current loop executes at 15 kHz, and its power transistors switch with a 30 kHz PWM carrier to keep motor torque ripple low. Twelve optically isolated digital inputs accept limit-switch, homing, or enable signals, and four digital outputs return status to the PLC. Peak input demand reaches 8 A DC from the supply during overload events. The drive shuts down during an under- or overvoltage condition, protecting both its internal components and the upstream power source.

For high-resolution feedback, the controller counts quadrature edges at up to 20 million counts per second, while command sources can stream step-and-direction pulses at a maximum of 1 MHz. Encoder line rates up to 5 million lines per second are supported without loss of position, allowing the controller to process rapid feedback changes during high-speed motion. An overtemperature trip engages at 70 °C to prevent thermal damage when internal temperatures rise beyond the operating limit. When regenerative braking pushes the DC bus beyond the +91 V DC overvoltage limit, the drive disconnects the output stage to prevent excessive bus voltage from reaching the power electronics.
