The PST-150-05 is a linear, unregulated DC power supply manufactured by Copley Controls for the PST Power Supplies series. In automated machinery, the unit converts single-phase mains power into a DC bus that feeds servo drives, I/O modules, and motion controllers. Its design suits control cabinets where a dedicated low-noise power source is needed to support fast current transients and repeatable positioning tasks.
On the input side, the supply connects to standard building power at 120 VAC and 60 Hz through a single-phase feed. Internally, a toroidal transformer steps the voltage before rectification and filtering, delivering a nominal DC rail of 150 VDC to downstream drives. The continuous current capability reaches 5 A, allowing steady conversion while maintaining ripple within 2% of the rail voltage. For rapid acceleration events, the output can provide 2.5 times the continuous current for 1 second at a 20% duty cycle, giving servos additional current capacity without external capacitors. The energy throughput is rated at 750 W, which can support several medium-inertia axes on a shared bus.
Energy storage is provided by a 6800 µF filter bank that smooths rectifier pulses and feeds a 6.8 kΩ bleeder resistor for discharge after power is removed. A 15 A thermal time-delay breaker is fitted on the front panel, providing integrated overcurrent protection. Mains current peaks at 9 A, which should be considered when selecting wiring and upstream fuses. Installation requires a 7.0 × 11.5-inch footprint, and the steel chassis mounts directly to panel subplate standoffs. The supply is linear and unregulated, so downstream servo drives must include their own regulation loops.
